The Slice was pretty much sold , Jan. 21  with  a packed house of local metal fans, there to hears  a trio of great local headbanging acts. While I missed Extrados and one of my favourites, Outrun the Arrow, I was in time for the upbeat,’70s- ’80s style arena metal of Tyrants of Chaos.

And while I absolutely loathe it when Terminator style, seizure inducing strobe lights blind me from the stage instead of highlighting the actual band, the band itself were tight.

They played a heap of original material featuring huge classic riffs, harmonized guitar solos, vintage two handed fret-board  tapping from guitarist Sandy Lawson and driving rhythm from guitarist Curtiss Vaselenak, bassist Paul Denton and drummer Ryan Dyck and the glass shattering, ear drum puncturing, air raid siren vocals of frontman Phil Sirias.

I dodged around a mini-mosh pit in front of the stage to take a few shots of the energy on stage.

 They also showed where they came from with an excellent cover of Iron Maiden’s “Wasted Years” which they followed up with Megadeth’s  “Symphony of Destruction” before going back to their originals.
