Canada Day is the day for live music this week

There’s lots to do on the Canada Day long weekend.The week was to begin with lots of laughs from Russell Peters, but the show  has been cancelled.

 Bot there is a lot going on because of Canada Day.

 First, there is an open mic at the Owl Acoustic Lounge tonight.

 

Gabe Thaine hosts another jam for hunger at the Slice on June 29. 

Gabe Thaine and friends open the night air 8 p.m. followed by a jam at 8:45. p.m. Donations will be taken for the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen.

 

 The Slice features a burlesque show on Thursday, June 30 Jukeboxx: Rock and Roll burlesque show begins at 7 p.m. Admission is $15  in advance, $20 at the door. Karlotta  Handle, Delilah Delirium, Bella Gold, Ivy la Fleur, Bea Lelissima, Karla Marx, Scartlett Disdaine and Babz Uka will be performing.

Theoretically Brewing is doing live music on their patio.

 They have big rock and roll show planned for June 30, featuring Toronto trio Deadwolff, Vancouver’s Rebel Priest and Lethbridge’s Hell Diablo. Admission is $15.

 

 Also on Thursday, New West Theatre presents a special presentation of the Greetergrammars. The Greetergrammars, featuring Mark Campbell, George Gallant, Randy Paskuski, Bente Hansen, Neil Sheets, Mark Switzer, Lloyd Pollock, Thad Mandin, Mike Day, Don Robb, Mark Boh, Dave Mikuliak, Mark Ward and Lyndon Bray who will be returning from Regina.have been spreading the joy through music for 40 years for special occasions.

 Proceeds from this show will be donated to the Logan Boulet fund. Tickets are $28.


 The Owl Acoustic Lounge finishes off June with Drag bingo, June 30.

 

 Things really cook for Canada Day, and I’m not just talking about the weather, which is predicted to be  27 degrees Celsius and sunny. The Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden has a full slate of entertainment beginning at 11 a.m. with the first guided tour of the day.

 The Minyo Dancers will be performing at  2 p.m.. The Lethbridge Community Taiko Drummers will also be performing at 2 p.m. as well as 10:30 p.m. 

 

 Yukata Dancing happens 10 a.m- 5 p.m. Tickets for that are $30. There will also be going and juniper tastings also extra at $30 and $40 and there will be an anime movie night from 7-9 p.m.

 

 If you want to dance, Unified Vibe is hosting an all ages patio party at the Onion with a variety of local DJs spinning beginning at 2 p.m. Streeter, Phunky da Freak, Verbose, Phenomenorm and Fuze will be on the turntables.

  The big celebration begins at Henderson Lake Park 11 p.m. with the Lethbridge community Jazz band followed by the Bridgette Yarwood band,  dancer Julie- Vanessa Munoz, Dave McCann at 1:20 p.m., Exisdance, Parabellum, Danceworks followed by dignitaries and march in at 4 p.m.

 

 The entertainment continues at 4:30 with the van Dance academy, local rock band Horizon, Alma Salvadoran Dance group, indie pop musician Bailey Kate, local folk musician Karen Romanchuk, blues rockers the Eric Braun Band, classic rock band Old School at 8:35. And Hippodrome will take you up to the fireworks beginning at 9:45 p.m.

 

There is also a full slate of entertainment at The Galt Gardens beginning at 9 a.m. Zumba in the park is at  9:40 a.m. followed by local roots duo Reid and Writes, Mandy Young, Withdenoise, Magic Moon Belly dancers performing  the first of three performances at 12:30, Circle Ridge country, Mike Murchison and Horizon closing things off at 3 p.m.

Bow City Underground  will be performing at the Ten Ten Pub  for Canada Day at 9 p.m. There is no cover for the show.

 

The Slice features Calgary born, Southern California based country rock band Daring Greatly. There is a $15 cover for the show, which begins at 9 p.m.

Out of town, blues rocker Bill Durst plays the Twin Butte Store for Canada Day.

 

 The big event  for Saturday is Pagan Cultural Festival, which begins at 11 a.m. in Galt Gardens. There will be  guest speakers, workshops, activities and live entertainment from accordion player Paul Nichols, Lyle Boswell demonstrating clogging, traditional powwow dancing plus Barry Livingston, Beth Wilson and Danica Sommers performing.

 

 Though Russell Peters isn’t performing in Lethbridge as originally scheduled, there is plenty of comedy this week with comedy club night at the Canadian Brewhouse on Thursday and Ola Dada performing Thursday and Friday at Good Times.

Hootenanny defines  this  summer’s season this week as well at the Galt Gardens, Saturday, July 2.

But that’s not all. The Lethbridge Jazz and Blues Festival has a big show on Monday, July 4 featuring Grammy Award winning drummer Larnell Lewis and Joy Lapps performing at the Yates Theatre,  at 8 p.m. Tickets are $43 and $45.

 And The Centric music Festival returns to Lethbridge venues, beginning, Tuesday, July 5 at Casa with violinist Alina Khvatova and pianist Cheryl Emery-Karapita performing a tribute to Ukraine. Five dollars from each ticket sold will be donated to the Canada -Ukraine  foundation for relief efforts.
